Baseten Eyes $1 Billion Raise at $11 Billion Valuation as AI Inference Demand Surges

Baseten, the AI infrastructure startup specialising in model inference and deployment, is in advanced talks to raise $1 billion at an $11 billion valuation, according to reporting by Cyber News Centre. The round would represent a significant step-up from the company's previous valuation and reflects the surging enterprise demand for efficient, scalable AI inference infrastructure.

Baseten's platform allows companies to deploy AI models — including open-source models like Llama and Mistral, as well as custom fine-tuned models — at production scale, with low latency and predictable costs. The company competes with AWS SageMaker, Google Vertex AI, and Modal, but has carved out a niche among AI-native companies that need more flexibility and performance than hyperscaler managed services provide.

The timing of the raise reflects a broader shift in the AI infrastructure market. As frontier model training costs have stabilised and attention has shifted to deployment, inference infrastructure has become the critical bottleneck. A company that can serve a billion API calls per day at sub-100ms latency and predictable per-token costs is solving a problem that every enterprise AI deployment faces. Baseten's reported $11 billion valuation implies investors believe it has built a durable competitive position in that market.

The round has not been formally announced and terms could change. Baseten declined to comment. If completed at the reported terms, it would be one of the largest funding rounds for an AI infrastructure company in 2026, behind only CoreWeave's $1.5 billion secondary and Groq's $1.2 billion Series D.
